July 11 launch day: priority service for deposit holders
Due to the incredible demand for the new iPhone 3G, on launch day stores will give priority entry to those who left a holding deposit. Deposit Holders will have access to priority queuing all day over non deposit holders and gain entry into participating stores 2 hours before general opening.
How can I get an iPhone 3G from Optus?

Don't worry, you'll get your chance to get your hands on a new iPhone 3G from Optus. Stock is strictly limited, though here are a few ways to get your iPhone 3G from Optus as early as possible.

Sydney midnight store opening - Optus mobile customers with holding deposits only
Can't wait to get your hands on your new iPhone 3G? To celebrate the launch of iPhone 3G, we will be opening our Optus World store at 280 George Street Sydney at 12.00am on July 11.
So if you're planning to be in Sydney on July 11 and you're an existing Optus Mobile Customer who left a holding deposit, you have a fantastic opportunity to be one of the first in Australia to get your new iPhone 3G.

Thanks to everyone for tipping us with information about Friday's release of the iPhone. If you have any information about the iPhone, feel free to contact us.
So what's happening?
This post will be updated with information frequently so check back often! Note - the information below are not from official sources.
Optus
- Optus in George Street Sydney will open at midnight
- Optus Store in Queen Victoria Building Sydney will be "500+ handsets" and opening at 7AM
- Optus Store in Preston will be opening at 7AM
- Optus Stores in Adelaide will be having "50 handsets for this Friday and would get another batch of 50 handsets next Friday"
- Optus Store in Brisbane City will be have around 150+ units to fill in pre-orders. You will only be able to sign up the contact on Friday and by the time they fill out/process all the paper work, you might be able to pick up the phone on Tuesday
Telstra
- After a phone call to the 1800iPHONE number, Telstra advised that all stores will be selling and having stock at this stage and there are only 3 plans available. Any finer details and iPhone specific plans will be announced on Friday morning and people will be notified by SMS and/or email.
- Telstra Store in Belconnen Canberra are "not expecting much stock" for Friday
- Telstra Sydney T-Life Store staff training on tonight
- Telstra Sydney T-Life Store will be opening at 6AM - "first in best dressed"
- The iPhone will be available on 11th at T-Life Stores and some selected metropolitan Telstra Shops. Away from the metropolitan areas, the likely date is 18th to 25th July

Hi there, I just thought you might like to know so you can post on your website that they have just released an iPhone 3G compatible case from Louis Vuitton Australia (I bought mine the other day in the Cairns store). The price is $315 in their classic monogram design, there are other designs like a classic black available however as I only purchased the monogram, I am not too sure of the pricing for this one. It is designed to have a perfect flush fit with your iPhone 3G (it will however fit the older iPhone, although will be slightly looser as the new iPhone is just that touch thicker around the middle). |

Optus will be the first Australian mobile carrier to distribute the iPhone at midnight on Thursday, followed by Telstra and Vodafone early on Friday morning.
Optus will open its George Street store in Sydney at midnight on Thursday. On Friday morning, the day of the iPhone 3G's official debut, Optus will open a number of its stores two hours early at 7am for eager early adopters itching for their iPhone fix.
Melissa Clare, Optus's corporate affairs manager, said only those who had pre-registered to buy an iPhone with Optus in advance would be able to collect their handset at the midnight launch in Sydney. On Friday, pre-registered customers would get priority service but anyone could come and buy an iPhone.
A midnight opening means that we receive it 14 hours before people in New York (10AM New York Time Thursday = 12AM Sydney Time Friday)

JB Hi-Fi has updated their front page with a banner advertising the iPhone with Telstra. No other information at this point.

Vodafone has confirmed that the iPhone will start at $199 on a two-year contract. However, that price only applies on the top plan. If you opt for the base plan the 8GB phone will cost you $549 and the 16GB phone will cost you $699.
That's $80 x 24 months + $549 = $2469! - For the cheapest plan!
Vodafone will offer three iPhone plans. The cheapest, at $80 per month, offers 250MB of data. The next plan up offers 500MB of data for $130 per month. The top plan will provide 1GB of data for a whopping $250 per month.
The plans include voice and text as well as data.
The iPhone will also be available on other post-pay mobile plans from Vodafone as long as you sign up for a 200MB or 1GB mobile data plan. However, what the purchase price for the iPhone itself will be on these plans has not been announced.
