Because from the terms and conditions on the regular plans you have: "Early Exit Fee of $34.50 x months left on the 24 month contract applies if not connected for 24 months" So, on the $69 (Which has the lowest early cancel fee) you're looking at: $309 upfront + 24 x 34.50 early exit ($828!!) + $69 one months connection + $80(?) unlock = $$1286 ...
