iPhone shortage sparks renewed 3G speculation PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 April 2008
The recent shortage of Apple iPhones has sparked speculation the US company is preparing to launch a new generation of the wildly successful mobile phone.

Reports from the United States suggest widespread shortages of the iPhone, with estimated lost sales of up to 40,000 phones each week.

While over half a million phones remain unaccounted for - meaning they have either not been activated in the United States - or remain in inventory, the shortage has sparked speculation over a potential new release of the iPhone.

It was reported yesterday that Apple may now be preparing to release a new 3G version of it's phone - an upgrade to the current 2.5G or EDGE technology used in the devices.

3G technology will allow faster speeds and bandwidth for those using the iPhone on telecommunications networks.

The company was widely chastised for it's decision to not include 3G capability within the phone - a key technology to deliver extra bandwidth and speeds for media files, photos and video.

A former founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak last month let rip on the iPhone - saying that it was a mistake to not include 3G within the iPhone's launch.

Apple plans to open 3rd Australian Apple Store PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 12 March 2008

Apple plans to open up to three official retail stores in Australia this year, including two Sydney stores in the CBD and in Chatswood and another in Chadstone, Victoria.

The stores, part of an aggressive international expansion by Apple, will become part of the company's lucrative network of about 200 retail outlets worldwide.

Apple is now putting the finishing touches on its three-level flagship store in the Sydney CBD, which is located on the corner of George Street and King Street.

Over the past few weeks construction workers have closed off part of George Street at night in order to install a transparent glass facade at the store's entrance, which will house a large and white suspended Apple logo.

The notoriously secretive company has said only that it plans to open a store in the Sydney CBD, and would not comment when it was asked to confirm the development of the other two stores. While it won't say when the CBD store will open, it is believed the covers will come off by June.

The job opportunities page on Apple's website reveals it is actively seeking staff for all three stores. It is believed the Chatswood store will be located in the Chatswood Chase Shopping Centre, while the Chadstone store will open in the Chadstone Shopping Centre.

Apple is rumoured to be flying some of the successful job candidates up to Apple's headquarters in California in the US for two weeks of training, followed by two weeks working in an American Apple store.

It takes a likin and keeps on kickin PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 03 February 2008

One thing to be said about Apple products is that while a little pricey, they are always well built. I know this from experience having dropped my iPod off a third story balcony and it kept on ticking. So it came as no surprise to me when I saw the news about an iPhone that was run over by a semi this morning.

Last week Mike Beauchamp's iPhone went under a semi truck (we hope not intentionally) and to his suprise, the iPhone kept kicking. The solid metal shell seems to have protected the iPhone from the massive force exerted on it. Even the screen stayed intact. The only damage sustained was the breakage and subsequent removal of the black plastic on the back.
