GadgetGuy: Optus to offer 1GB iPhone download plan
Page 2
Our source within Optus revealed that it will offer a $100 per month pre paid cap plan that includes you $800 worth of calls, $100 worth of Optus 'My Time' calls, and, wait for it, a hefty 1GB of data transfers. Data costs are a huge part of the overall cost of using an iPhone so this component can have a big impact on your overall bill. It's good to see that Optus is being reasonable here. On the downside, it appears that Optus iPhones will be locked to the network, and it will cost you around $60 to $80 to unlock it.

What the heck are people complaining about? Far out man. I've forked out $1500 for a Jazjam iMate which is no where near as intuitive or as fully featured as the iPhone. (Even the 1st gen)

I mean they reduce the price by close to half, and yes of course you're tied to a plan for them to get their profits. He could have kept the price at double what it is now? Would you be complaining then?

I mean, seriously guys, you're on this dang website cause you're obsessed with the product. And you complain that the Ferrari of Mobile phones is expensive? It's the best on the market....(and they halved the price. Haven't seen any half priced Ferrari's lately)

As much as I hate Telstra, I almost bought a Hiptop for that ridiculously amazing plan.

Then came iPhone. Thought I'd better give it a chance...

If they release that plan for iPhone, they will knock competition DEAD.

i still think the Telstra one will be the best as if they do a plan simmilar to the Hiptop plan they currently have, where you spend $30 a month and get unlimited data (emails, internet, msn and the rest of it) on the NextG network, how can you compete with thaat

cry me a river all of ya.

until optus, or voda, or telstra or three, or any other telco themselves tell you what they are chargin, its probably all crap.

its the iphone, rumors follow anything that is made by mac, so just relax, wait a few more days, and who knows we might all get a nice surprise and be paying 60$ for 5gb worth of data with 500$ worth of calls....

if not, and if they release their plans and its a massive rip off, then have a sook, until then ya wasting ya time.

While surfing the net on the iphone is great, you get over it after a while. It's a great feature, but it doesn't come close to replacing a laptop (especially a mac!)

Animal, I completely agree with you. I'll barely be calling or texting at all. I'm primarily buying the iPhone for the net browsing, so yes, I'm gonna need more than 1GB data. We're talking heavy over-use of net browsing, 1GB ain't gonna cover that.

Pretty sure I don't need $800s worth of calls. Pretty sure I do need more than 1GB of data. If you're making that many calls and don't care about data, then buy a different fucking phone. The iPhone is not intended to be primarily for use as a phone.

Thats not that bad considering you get 800 dollars worth of calls. Unless you plan on spending all your time on the internet using the iphone, I think 1gb is enough. Seriously, what could you possibly be doing on your iphone that you couldn't do on a near by computer thats going to require over 1gb of data usage?

This optus pre-paid cap deal isn't new.
It's just a standard prepaid cap along with the $30, $40, $50 and $70

The only difference is that the current offer is only 500mb, so maybe they'll change that to 1GB?

I mean, come on, surely they can have a larger data plan for a much lower price than that.
