To "rob". Get the stick out ur ass man. I challenge you to find a better rate for a Blackberry, Palm, or any other smartphone. They cost $1000+ to buy. Have you seen the rates in the US? I suppose you want someone to give you a life too!!!!

Actually, I'm pretty impressed with this pricing! For someone like me who is not interested in global roaming or unlocking, there's lots of choice of plans and the handset repayments on the 24 month plans are very affordable. Huge relief to know that I'll be able to get one on the day and not have to save up for months. I'm a happy girl!

Yep, i think Telstra is looking the best at the moment. I've been with Optus for 5ears and never had a problem with their plans and data useage rates.

What they are offering is complete shit.

Telstra looks the most appealing at the moment

Is that saying that its extra on top of the allowance? Or not charged as using your allowance?

I'm with Alex

This is fucking bullshit. When I first heard the line about $US199, I presumed it meant with a plan, but when I watched the Keynote address, there was no ambiguity: Jobs said rolling out at a max of $US199.

As for "yeahright": Jobs says he meant that he's hoping that ruthless (multi)national corporations that care for nothing but their profits and their shareholders will subsidise the iphone so that poor people can have one? Yeah, right.

Steve Jobs did mention in an interview after the keynote, that he wanted the iphone subsidised by the telcos to make the $199 price tag affordable to those who couldn't otherwise afford one. To those who are complaining, would you give away a $800+ phone without a return? Get real people. I'm sick of the "give me freebeez" attitude.

I don't know that Steve Jobs ever said that the $199 price was the outright price so in reality this is actually cheaper than what he said.

I did assume that it was the outright price though :upset

Peter, 1st gen iphones won't get repaired here, the 3g ones will.

Honestly, a 79 cap with 700mbs a month really isn't that bad at all, especially since theres no upfront cost or handset payments.. I'd really consider it.

James, that is not how I interpreted what Steve Jobs said in his keynote. I thought that meant that the hardware would cost $199 USD or close to you would have to consider GST of course.

There is no upfront cost if you get a plan with optus you just pay $80 per month for 24 months..

alex, i think you'll find that 729 is the outright price for the 8g iphone, not the upfront cost for cheapest plan. Telstra is only around 300 dollars for a 30$ plan upfront 8g ipod. Also, Peter, i think you can repair your ipod 3g in australia but you cannot repair the old first gen iphone. if you read the article on this site i think thats what you'll get.
