Optus Let iPhone Customers Track Their Usage From Their iPhone PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 September 2009
When customers fall in love with their iPhone, they fall hard. Real hard.

They open the sexy Apple box (who doesn't love that box?) and fire up their new phone and get started on their iPhone experience. They surf the internet, they download apps, they use Facebook on the bus, they use maps to navigate and so on, and so on. The list never ends...

Yet, all of this comes at a cost, especially if you are on the wrong plan. Since the iPhone launched in Australia, forums and message boards have filled up with stories of bill shock where a customer's first bill is way higher than expected.
Tracking Your Usage Directly From Your iPhone
Optus have just released a free iPhone app which will let customers track and monitor their account usage from their iPhone (using the app is free as well - your data used on this Optus app will not be counted towards your monthly usage).  iTunes Link
Avoiding Bill Shock
So, there are two ways make sure that you can avoid bill shock:
  1. Make sure you are on the right plan. Compare iPhone plans from Optus (and all carriers) and enter your calling or mobile internet / data requirements to see the best plans for you. If you are not on the right plan, call the carrier on the number listed to upgrade.
  2. Use the bill tracking app during the month to stay on top of your usage. When using applications which require data, use wi-fi where available.
