Leaked Telstra iPhone plans show the biggest Telco in the land intends to milk iPhone customers for all they can.
While still unofficial, Telstra plans, scanned from a shop staff training pack, have shown up at the Australian Mac user site MacTalk. The news, it seems, isn't good. In fact, for most non-business, non-high end customers they are just plain bad. Details are still incomplete, but according to the Telstra only higher end plans come with enough data to be considered reasonable. For instance, a monthly spend of $89 nets you 200MB of included data, but stepping down to a $59 plan reduces that down to 80MB. If the document is to be believed, the plans are also broken up in two tables for each of the different model iPhones - something that could indicate different pricing for a 12 versus 24 month contract. However, if that's the case, Telstra's cheapest cap plan is $105 per month, a full $86 more expensive than the cheapest Optus plan. View the plans here. Read the full story here.
10-07-2008 22:06 10-07-2008 18:00 ITS A FAKE! they are just basing it on normal next g phones download limits. its all fake!!! Telstra may be stupid, but they arent this stupid! IP: 58.165.91.36 Guest 10-07-2008 16:44 Yeh thats it bryce, tho you will probably end up having to pay for more, cuz i cant see you staying under ur limits bud. lets just hope that these are fake! IP: 58.165.91.36 Guest 10-07-2008 16:14 If I buy the 8GB iPhone on the $40 plan, does that mean all I do is pay the $279 PLUS $40 tomorrow, then each month just pay $40? Or is there more to it? IP: 122.109.254.9 Guest 10-07-2008 16:09 just a random carrier question, any word about 3(three) getting the iphone? IP: 203.214.114.141 Guest 10-07-2008 15:46 Yeh im gonna be waiting anyway... ...... no shops in my town...damn north qld, oh well i might get better plans than all you early adopters, tho id rather be an early adopter anyway.... ![]() IP: 58.165.91.36 Guest 10-07-2008 15:30 The delays with pricing is bollocks. I will now no longer be lining up for my phone tomorrow morning. I think the best plan is to wait a week and let the dust settle to see what develops. I can soldier on with the phone I have right now for anther week. Phone companys can be real wankers all they do it put us off them. IP: 203.10.224.59 Guest 10-07-2008 15:01 Is this official confirmation of Telstra's plans?. http://www.theage.com.au/news/iphone-insider/optus-offers-best-value-iphone-deal-citi-says/2008/07/10/1215658000789.html IP: 165.69.111.38 Guest 10-07-2008 14:37 10-07-2008 14:32 I don't believe these are the real Telstra plans. Telstra told us there were three plans $30, $80, $100, I don't see any of those on that last. Plus no information on call costs, connection costs or excess data costs. Telstra would be stupid to think that people would pay that amount of money for just 200MB. They have seen Optus' plan, I doubt they would release un-compeditive plans. IP: 58.174.49.26 Guest 10-07-2008 14:12 you really do need to keep trying. none of us are physced for you yet ;-) but hey...whatever works for you. I also want my data time for while on the train/tram. works has wifi, home has wifi. and melbourne has a generous supply of optus wifi spots, which is free for optus iphone customers. IP: 203.94.160.230 Guest 10-07-2008 14:12 I am a vodafone customer - and I am sure I am one of many that will now be moving to Optus... what is Vodafone and Telstra thinking! IP: 202.146.6.250 Guest 10-07-2008 14:01 Cozizzle - That's interesting...i'm a Vodafone customer. *shock* But i'm a country girl so if I want the iPhone, face it, I really have no option but Telstra. Just trying to psyche myself up for it! IP: 165.228.227.183 Guest 10-07-2008 13:58 I totally agree with greeneggs on this one. I spend 3 hours a day on trains. Rinoa posts smacks of Telstra viral marketing. IP: 121.44.198.220 Guest 10-07-2008 13:57 I call shenanigans Under the plan provided, for the 8GB plan $200 would only get $70 of calls per months, no way this can be right. IP: 124.168.170.105 Guest 10-07-2008 13:57 10-07-2008 13:47 wifi hotspots? it'll be interesting to see who the market for iPhone is. it's friendly UI makes it a consumer rather than a business only oriented device. I spend 2.5hrs a day on public transport , that's when I want my data access - i have wifi at work and at home, so unless Maccas or Gloria Jeans starts setting up cafes in train carriages, unlimited wifi is useless to me. IP: 203.158.58.48 Guest 10-07-2008 13:24 The two tables indicate pricing for customers who want a $0 handset, or who would like a lower monthly spend and are willing to pay a partially subsidised price. But as mentioned, nothing is confirmed. Data is as per Telstra's standard data rates, but we have to remember the speeds will be sooo much better on NextG...plus being in the country won't limit your speeds...imagine browsing the web on 2g speeds with Optus or Voda! Plus...on those plans you score FREE and UNLIMITED wi-fi access at any Telstra Wi-Fi hotspot...of which there are 1119 nationally. There's even phone boxes sending out wi-fi frequencies! Every Maccas has one...and some starbucks too. With such a content heavy device, personally, I think you can achieve a much better experience with Telstra. IP: 165.228.227.183 Guest 10-07-2008 13:21 While I'd love to buy one at release, I'm going to wait for the initial craziness around pricing to cool off. After the crazy pricing wars that went on recently with wireless broadband, I dont want to get locked into something for 24 months at $obscene/month, only to find that the carriers are all undercutting each other after a month and release more competitive pricing. IP: 121.44.198.220 Guest 10-07-2008 13:19 bahahahahahaha. telstra is a joke. i dont know why anyone would choose this provider in the first place regardless of their iphone prices. hahaha they are fuct. ![]() IP: 211.26.80.254 Guest While still unofficial, Telstra plans, scanned from a shop staff training pack, have shown up at the Australian Mac user site MacTalk. 10-07-2008 13:10 it seems the whole pricing of the iphone has turned into a spectacle of its own. These prices are ridiculous, and i really don't believe Telstra are that stupid. Vodafones prices were dissapointing too but believable. I can't believe out of all of them Optus will be the cheapest, and even more surprising are affordable for just about everyone (i'm a student w/ no job and i can afford it) If it turns out to be true than Optus need to be congratulated for understanding that selling more = more profit. I would have thought all the prices would have been reasonably close...but they're all so wildly different. IP: 124.176.100.154 Guest Only registered users can write comments.
