When you purchase an iPhone, you have the unfortunate restriction on a limited number of standard ringtones. After a few days on their default 'Marimba' ringtone, you start to see if there's any other ringtones, but they are just as embarrassing to be seen picking up on in public (Who would want to pick up the the noise of dogs barking?). The option of getting custom ringtones for your iPhone is not easy.
There are currently three methods. First, is SendSong - a free application in-built with Installer allowing you to use your music playlist as a collection of ringtones. Unfortunately, this fell apart after the release of firmware 1.1.1 and songs were wiped out ever ytime the iPhone was sync'd to iTunes. Second was the MeCCA method - this required you to access the iPhone internally and change files around and add some quite complex code to fool the iPhone into thinking your ringtones were 'legally purchased' off iTunes.
Although it survived the sync with iTunes, the process was quite difficult and time costing every time you wanted to add a new ringtone - you had to convert the file, note down the timing of the file and create/edit the text file. And now, there's Efiko's iPhoneRingToneMaker.

When we received the review copy of the iPhoneRingToneMaker, we had high expectations due to many high reviews and recommendations from the iPhone community and even respected hackers. We were not disappointed by what we saw and remarkably pleased with the product.
Within the minute of downloading the 2MB file, we installed the product and opened up the program. Its easy to use interface meant there was no need to view the help file. Using the two sliders, you could crop your music file to your favourite part and make it your ringtone. You can make the sound fade in and fade out and even add funky sound effects such as echo and phaser. Not loud enough? No worries, boost up the volume with an easy click of the button. When you are ready, click 'Preview' and hear your ringtone, then send it off to your iPhone.

Note that it adds a second 'Sync in Progress' phase to your iPhone to re-add the ringtones after iTunes wipes them, this may be time consuming after you have many ringtones. Also with 1.1.3, note that the program is still in beta version with a few bugs around. When you finish transferring your custom ringtone, you can then view all your custom ringtones like a playlist in the next tab, in a very organised manner.
We highly recommend the splendiferous iPhoneRingToneMaker to all iPhone users. Your ringtone defines who you are - you're not a barking dog right?
